Henderson Valley Eggs
I’ve been out of commisssion this week with the flu, so I missed really getting into the grand unveiling of my newest endeavor, Henderson Valley Eggs. What is HVE? It’s sort of an online magazine, it’s sort of a blog…the term we’re going with is “Information Collective.” HVE is written and co-edited by 6 “spring chicken” law librarians – Tom Boone, Pam Brannon, Jason Eiseman, Elizabeth Farrell, Meg Kribble and myself. We all have (or soon will have) personal blogs and websites where we write about law libraries and other topics that interest us. One major function of HVE will be to collect all of our law library themed writings into a single area.
But wait! There’s more!
We will also be creating HVE only content. Some of it will be single author pieces and some of it will be “per curium” posts that will function as editorials representing the opinion of all of us. Another super-nifty thing (um…that’s a web design term of art) is the Activity Stream. (Pictured at left) When we were planning the site, we realized that writing a blog post is not always the most efficient way to share information – sometimes you just want to say, “Hey, check out this site!” So the Activity Stream features the editors’ tweets, delicious bookmarks, diigo bookmarks, etc. that we feel are HVE appropriate. (In other words, you’re not going to see all of the content we share that we share…we’re picking and choosing what shows up here.) And, if you’ll look closely, you’ll notice that it has its own RSS feed, so you can subscribe to it.
NIFTY!
So, I’m super-excited about the future of the site. I really like and respect my co-editors and I’ve had a blast planning the site with thus far. I do need to give a special shout-out to Tom Boone who handled the bulk of the actual website creation. I guess it’s all made possible thanks to Drupal, but I still like my explanation of “magic” better.
So what does this mean for this site? Maybe nothing, although I already expanded my focus from just “law lib tech” to “all law library” issues when I made the switch from the Technological Tortoise to here. So I may take the opportunity to write about whatever interests me, whether it’s directly correlated to law libraries or not. I’m also looking forward to doing more “professional” writing on HVE. As I explained to my co-editors, since this is a personal site, my writings here are generally of the “this is what happened to ME and here is what I FEEL about it” nature. I’m hoping HVE will allow me to expand my repertoir and dossier.
So, check it out…I really think you’re gonna love our eggs! (Pssst…you can follow us on Twitter too!)
“I guess it’s all made possible thanks to Drupal, but I still like my explanation of “magic” better.”
I think Clarke’s Third Law allows for both explanations given that Drupal is a sufficiently advanced technology.
