hello world

Hello World. Welcome to Sarah Glassmeyer (dot) com version who knows what.

I started this website/blog when George Bush was president. It had a blog roll. And an RSS feed. I was an academic librarian trying to figure out how to use all this new fangled technology (meaning, Web 2.0) in my work.

A lot changed in 15+ years.

A lot.

A LOT.

Some good and some bad. The bad was really bad. But the good was really good, too.

As I navigated life and work, I still wrote here, but as time went on, I felt limited by it. Some of the former posts make me cringe, the tags and categories were a mess, and, well…sometimes a girl wants to write about something other than work or professionally connected topics but making a pivot seemed impossible. And because my website was my name…I couldn’t just leave it behind. I felt stuck for years and experimented with newsletters and alternate sites but wasn’t quite sure how my various digital presences connected or should connect.

Then my asshole former webhost tried to quintuple my subscription rate and when I complained, they deleted all my shit.

(Don’t worry, I made sure to back up everything before I sent my nastygram.)

That forced my hand and I had to move hosts and transfer my URLs quickly. I put up a blank fresh WP install as a place holder until I had time to re-upload everything and the more I thought about it, I was like…maybe I can just start fresh?

You know what? I’m 50 years old. The only thing I have to do is pay taxes and die. So guess what?

I am starting fresh.

(I will put up the archives at some point. Because I am a data hoarder at the end of the day.)

(Also while some of it makes me cringe, some of that shit is good.)

So going forward, you can expect a melange of content. I will use appropriate tags so you can filter to what interests you.

I am actually looking forward to finding out what interests me too.

I can’t remember if I heard this in a movie, or if it was at a wedding, or maybe it was something my mom told me. But anyway, I’ve been obsessing over the thought “The secret to a long lasting marriage is to not fall out of love which each other at the same time.” I am not married – which I am not sad about – but I think I have fallen out of love with things in my life that I used to adore. I don’t dislike them, to be clear. But..the spark is gone for some of them. And for others, it’s been so long since I’ve engaged, that I have forgotten what it’s like.

So for the next period of time, I’d like to either try and find that spark again and reacquaint myself with former loves OR find new things that cause a spark and new interests. And I’ll probably document a lot of it here.

Also, and I can’t believe I have to say this, but aside from my sweet ass header image and icons, I promise that everything written here will be straight from my dome and no GenAI used at all. I also plan on adding some bells and whistles like post notifications and whatnot.

Okay, here we go.

Gunter, Gleiben, Glauchen, Globen…
